Community Engagement

Mascher Space Cooperative’s Community Engagement program strives to long-lasting and reciprocal relationships with our surrounding community by developing art-driven engagement strategies and shared resource programs for the schools and organizations that reside in Philadelphia’s Kensington neighborhood.  Mascher is proactive in the goals of racial equity and inclusion, as well as being conscientious neighbors within the quickly gentrifying area.  Our current Community Engagement Coordinator is Christina Gesualdi.

To learn more about partnering up with our cooperative, please email us: community-engagement@mascherdance.org

Some of our core partners include:

– The Gay and Latino Aids Education Initiative (GALAEI)
– The Lady Hoofers Tap Ensemble
– Moffet Elementary School
– South Kensington Community Partners (SKCP)

With help from the Bartol Foundation Mascher can continue our outreach program, pairing up with Kat Richter and The Lady Hoofers and Moffet Elementary School to offer a long-term tap immersion for 60 fifth grade students from the neighboring school.

In fall of 2013, Moffet students received free tap shoes thanks to  Access 2 The Arts and free weekly tap lessons at Mascher for three months. We plan on bringing more tap classes to Moffet kids through the coming school year, and we look forward to an informal sharing and showing in the spring, where we can bring together students’ tap and tap composition with Mascher Artists in Residence.
